Travel – Gatikallu – Chikmagalur

When you crave for a quick gataway and you just have two days in hand, what can you do? Well, if you have a car and you live by Mangalore, there is a place called Gatikallu. It’s just about 20 km from one end of Charmadi Ghats by the place called Kottigehara. It is simply a pristine unexplored nature waiting for you.DSC05406

Day 1:

First part is the travel about 150 km from Mangalore, so started around 8 AM and reached here at about 1 PM. Its a ghat travel famous for its windy roads, fresh cool air and the scenic views.

We stayed in a homestay called “Ghatikallu Home Stay”. How was the stay? Please read it here. Actually, nothing to explain, just the pictures so please go through the pictures and the description below each of them.

It’s absolute bliss, superb location and very much tourist free. One of the mountain peaks is called “Rani Jari”, which means Queen’s fall. According to the legend, one of the queens from the Hoysala period committed suicide from the top of this mountain. I couldn’t find any more info on this though.

Yes, that’s all we did one day one! Naturally, need a very good sleep after all these. Food was part of the package at the homestay. All the above travel also provided by the homestay along with one local guide.

Day 2:

By 12 PM, we were able to check out and start our return trip back. We took the scenic Kudremukh road to reach back to Mangalore.

There are other home stays nearby too.

Other nearby attractions.

Beautiful terrain and lovely pictures. Reminds me of the treks we do around here. The Aravalis don’t have such altitude but the terrain is quite interesting. Looks like the monsoon is missing there. Haven’t seen you around lately! Busy?

Yes, these are done just before the monsoon, I am pretty sure whole thing will be so different now. In south I think each place you have to visit twice once in summer and once in rain, they will be 180 degree apart! Yes, I have been very much out of wp these days, trying hard to get back!
