Travel – Bylakuppe – Tibetan Monastery

The Namdroling (Nyingmapa) Monastery (Popularly know as “Golden Temple”)is the largest teaching center of the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. Located in Bylakuppe in Mysore district of the state of Karnataka(India). ย In 1960, the Government of Karnataka allotted 3,000 acresย of land at Bylakuppe in Mysore district and the first ever Tibetan exile settlement.

It will be a good one day activity to visit the temple and have a look at the settlement colonies and the Tibetan shopping. Plenty of eating joints also available here. Basically you feel that you are in Tibet along the monks in colorful religious attire.

Interesting description of the golden temple. I liked the photo with the monks (I assume) in the street the best.

  11. Years ago, I travelled by ST bus to Coorg and Thalakavery, and found many Tibetan monks there. Now I know why. Lovely photos.
