Oyster Opera – Kerala – India

DSC03526

Well, we have our friends from childhood, but then modern lifestyle slowly pulled us apart, this distance grows even further away as the families grew, lot of new strings attached to everyone. Being with old friends and doing the old frolics once more becomes a mission impossible 😂 . But I must say that I am fortunate enough to have bunch of buddies right from school days and be able to still keep that connection tight and bonded even now. All of them have spread across the world, but thanks to our electronic connectivity we were able to preserve that connect and were able to make one great occasion to be together, this time with families. It was a 2 days of non stop fun, we spent it like 2 hours! just wanna share it with you all!

So the destination chosen was “Oyster Opera” a sea side resort in a town called Kasargod at Kerala State(South western coast of India). Well, Kerala is known as “Gods own country” for valid reason, its spectacular coastal scenic landscape is beyond explanation. Tourists from all over the world visit regularly this particular coastal belt. (Also check another gem of a location “Goa” from my blog here)

As a part of a tour we took two days package. Every family took a cottage each. The price included stay and all food covered. Generally any hotel offering all food included is a kind of a rip off, but don’t get me wrong, in this case its a exception! There is amazing variety of food, local as well as standard Indian dishes prepared and served along with fruit juices! If you go here please order for local Kerala dishes! The food is unlimited and amazing quality!. If you like to eat well .. this is the best place to have your thirst satisfied.

Best way to get here is by train, you have to get down in station called “Cheruvathur” (make sure your train stops here as some of the express trains do not stop here). Once you are here then you have to take a auto-rickshaw ride to “Oyster Opera”, every rickshaw driver knows about it, any tourist here means he is going to Oyster Opera! It costs about 150 rs (max).

As you reach here you will be greated by the owner of the property Mr Ghul, a very honest, hardworking man. Who takes care of each and everything simple things in the resort. Time for your welcome drink and refreshments. Then you are taken to your respective cottages.

The cottages are basically one or two rooms with bath attached. Air conditioning offered at extra cost, rainy season you may not need AC. Interesting thing is they do have a open top bathroom.. that means you can take bath looking at the sky 😝. We were there during the rainy season and it rained while I was taking bath..!! 🤠

Activities:

  • They have a dining area where you could have a party like environment, they have music systems, mics etc. So carry your favorite music files. They can also organize a camp fire at night.(Included)
  • They can arrange for famous Kerala style massage for you inside the resort. (Charged extra)
  • Boat trip to nearby beach and scenic view on backwaters offered as part of the package.
  • Last but not the least, one of the biggest fun part for us was, they will take in in backwaters and let you get down in to (safe) water and have fun!! That was most exciting part of the whole trip for all of us. If that is important make sure you find that out before hand itself as things are dependent on the season you are visiting.

Backwater fun! It was a rainy season, we all were in water and suddenly it started pouring (it rains very heavily during monsoon season) … people started shouting “rain, rain, rain!!” But then we realized that we are already in water completely wet…so continued our fun in the rain… it’s been couple of decades since we played in rain! We all were children once again!!

I heard that they have swimming pool also now but nothing can beat the backwater fun!

Please check the above pictures to just visualize what I mean by “Gods own country”. The place is isolated and very safe even for couples or foreigners. The package price is very justifiable and I found value for money.  I have seen lot of people come here on day trip I strongly discourage that, at least make sure to have one day stay here.

Pooja, this particular place is north Kerala itself, infact its very close to Bekal. Basically from Kanyakumari till Goa western coastline almost same.. similar food and culture you can find.
