Belur & Haleibeedu capital of the Hoysala Empire. One of the major tourist destinations in Karnataka. The main attraction being Chennakeshava Temple (meaning handsome Vishnu)  temple and Kappe Chennigaraya temple built by Shantaladevi, queen of king Vishnuvardhana. It is said that Shantaladevi herself danced in front of the main shrine during its installation and her dance inspired the poses of the figurines on the temple walls. Built by king Vishnuvardhana in commemoration of his victory over the Cholas at Talakad in 1117 CE.

  1. Amazing architecture. Interesting that this temple survives after 900 years and yet homes we build here in the states can’t survive a hurricane or tornado. Beautiful shots, Raj.
